7/18: Some high clouds in the mix.
Crested Butte Weather and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update-For Today- 7/18: Our dry slot has pivoted with the pattern to more of a western flow as this trough moves through to our north. This has pushed some residual moisture and high clouds into the area but not enough for any real threat of wetting rains. Look for clouds and dry windy cells a lot like yesterday with another hot day on tap. Some residual smoke from Montrose could move through again but this western shift in the pattern takes us out of the more direct flow.
Temperatures: We saw temperatures drop again overnight hitting 35 for Crested Butte and 43 for Gunnison. Highs will reach 80 for CB and 83 for Gunni by the afternoon. Lows tonight will look about the same.
Outlook: The dry western flow holds through Friday but then we see it drop back to the southwest for the weekend tapping a weak subtropical plume. This will bring a slight increase in available fuel for convective storms starting Saturday and continuing through the beginning of next week. Put the rain gear back in your bag and plan on earlier starts but with the classic beautiful summer mornings.
