2/2: Classic valley inversions.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 2/2: As expected a strong inversion kept us much colder than models predicted and we are seeing another cold morning that will likely offer the same colder clear day. Look for another day a lot like yesterday with the classic temperature split keeping the lower valley floors in the low teens while the ridges and resort are 5+ degrees warmer. Prepare for chilly conditions and a slow rebound from cold lows.
Temperatures: Overnight lows were a couple degrees warmer but still reached -17 for Crested Butte and -18 for Gunnison. Highs will rebound slowly even with the sun holding to the low teens down low. Lows tonight will gain another degree or two but hold to the negative teens.
Outlook: Cold and clear conditions will hold through most of Friday and then we see some high clouds mixing in overnight that will help moderate temperatures a bit. The inversion will hold in the valleys until we see enough wind to help scour out the cold. This will be a slower process but the pattern pivots ahead of a wave moving in Sunday night with high clouds helping. This next round will split and has the same potential as our wave last weekend to offer an upside surprise but that will be a work in progress with a mostly sunny weekend to look forward to.
